    TODAY: Port Drivers on Strike!

Over the past ten years, corporations have illegally misclassified workers as independent contractors to lower wages, avoid paying benefits, evade laws that provide protections on the job, and shift risks and business expenses onto employees. But despite hundreds of rulings of misclassification awarding drivers more than $36 million, the illegal scheme continues to dominate trucking at our nation’s largest port complex.

Los Angeles and Long Beach need good jobs, and with such prosperity, there is just no excuse for the cities/ports to allow greedy corporations to continue to illegally exploit warehouse workers and truck drivers. To learn more about the type of injustices they are dealing with on a daily basis, USA Today conducted a year-long investigation: Rigged: Forced into debt. Worked past exhaustion. Left with nothing.

This week is the port drivers’ 15th strike in the last three years, and they need our support at the actions below now more than ever!
